The two day Neon Festival celebrates the transformation of the Norfolk neighborhood surrounding the Chrysler Museum into a legitimate art destination. Murals and other street art were highlighted along with concerts, vendors, and street performers. One performer, Daniel Neale, in particular stuck out to me with the odd instruments he used.
Originally from Portsmouth, Va, Neale bought and lived in a sailboat with the hopes of becoming a professional musician. Working as a production manager for years, Neale decided to go all in with his music career and moved to Norfolk, Va. two ears ago. He has been a full time musician ever since. Street performances in the summer and live indoor gigs in the winter pay the bills now.
